2 Billion Trees

The West Interlake Watershed District is taking part in the federal 2 Billion Trees program. The program is in its infancy, so please contact the WIWD regarding specific program stipulations and limitations.

The program involves a contractual agreement until 2034 or 3 years post-planting; whichever date is later. This agreement involves the necessity for the applicant to care for the trees during this period of time; involving site preparation, planting, scheduled watering, and overall maintenance. The contract also reserves any right for carbon credits to Natural Resources Canada for the duration of the agreement.

The program is a cost-share with the applicant, and has a 180+ seedling planting minimum in effect. Keep in mind there are also species limitations, and a focus on planting trees, not shrubs. All applications must be approved before project work can begin.
